Every time I start a new 8x8 grid I end up with the same game. What am I doing wrong?

Does this error continue to occur

Can someone help me out here. I love playing 8x8 hard levels, but sometimes I run into an impossible situation, I then ask for help - and the help I get does not always make sense to me. See below. I understand that since there's a black circle on F3, we can't have black circles on both D3 and E3, but the algorithm suggests there must be a black circle on A3. I don't see how this is a given. It could also be on B3.

Since you got 3 white circles, the last one cannot be on A3 or B3, because either way you would end up having 3 black circles in D3, E3 and F3.

A3 and B3 are for sure black circles, I think the game is just suggesting you the first one 👍

I don't get it. how is it that A3 or B3 cannot be white circles? Why can't they? White could be on A3 and a black could be on B3 or the other way around

Looking at the column, let's say A3 is a white circle: that would be the last one, since you can have 4 white circles and 4 black circles maximum in the same column.

Having all the white circles placed, other cells have to be black circles: that would make the column output like:

A3-White B3-Black C3-White D3-Black E3-Black F3-Black G3-White H3-White

This means the column would result having 3 adjacent black circles, that is incorrect. Swapping A3-Black and B3-White would end up with the same result (3 adjacent black circles), so A3 and B3 have to be both black.

Sorry for my bad english, hope this can help!

I just thought about another way to put it: since you can have max 2 black circles into the outlined cells D3, E3 and F3, the other 2 black circles have to be in A3 and B3 👍

Yes, I see it now. Thanks a lot for the time and effort, I really, really appreciate it. 🙏🏻

I think there might be a bug as some games have more than one solution...

Hello, thank you for your message. In row 5 and 7 there are an unequal amount of 0/1 per row. Following rule apply:

  • Each row and column must contain an equal number of ones and zeroes

The correction is therefore correct and will delete the wrong input.

I see, my bad. Apologies.

I’m completely addicted to it! One of my favorites on Playdate!!!

Thank you, that's very kind of you! I hope you have many more hours of fun with the game :)

Amazing. This is crazy addictive, especially if you are into games like Sudoku. I played the "easy" levels for a while but recently upped to "hard" and the game became far more complex and interesting. Both modes are great (easy for when I am calming down before bed, hard for when I want a challenge). Like KDR_11k notes below, there is a bug(?) where if you choose a different board size after a match it doesn't actually change the board size - you have to back out to the menu or quit the game and try again. A minor quibble for what is a great, simple game. The simplicity of the rules but complexity of the game reminds me of othello/reversi.

This is a great puzzle game! If you ever intend on making more puzzle games for play date, could I request Hitori. these grid based sudoku like puzzle games are my favorite.

Thanks for your feedback! I'll take a look.

It's neat but one thing initially confused me: In the post game stats screen you can change the board size to see the results for them but when you press "play again" after that you stay at your initially selected size, took me a few attempts to realize that selection there wasn't for the next match.

In the beta of the game I cannot use 1 in the tutorial level. However it works in the game.

So far I like the esthetics of the game and unique puzzle

The tutorial should actually be adapted for the beta version. Thanks for your feedback!

This is a great wee puzzle game. It's very sudoko style, all levels can be solved by a process of elimination. Once you get used to the three rules, you find yourself motoring through the easier levels, so I was pleased to see the multiple difficulty levels (though to be honest I still get caught on the odd 'easy' one!). Very well polished too, looks good on a Playdate!  Recommended.
